AAAE Conference Attendees Give Back to Philly

32 dedicated aviation industry professionals took time out of there busy schedules to give back to the great city of Philadelphia. They spent their Saturday morning packing and boxing 4,400 lbs of pasta and sorting 10,000 lbs of dry good for the organization Philabundance (www.philabundance.org). Philabundance provides food to over 600 smaller food distribution organizations throughout the Northeast. Thank you very much to the sponsors of this event, TransSolutions and Vandelande Industries.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari to Keynote AAAE Annual Conference

Fresh on the job after being sworn in June 1, 2009, U.S. Deputy Secretary of Transportation John Porcari will deliver his first address to an aviation industry group at the AAAE Annual Conference on Tuesday, June 16 at 10:30 am in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

About the New Deputy Secretary
As Deputy Secretary, Porcari serves as the Department's chief operating officer with responsibility for the day-to-day operations of 10 modal administrations and the work of more than 55,000 DOT employees nationwide and overseas.

Before becoming Deputy Secretary, Porcari had served as Secretary of the Maryland Department of Transportation since January 2007, a position he also held between 1999 and 2003. His accomplishments in that position include transforming the state's capital program for transportation to require all projects to be consistent with the principles of smart growth, overseeing the $1.8 billion expansion of Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport, and directing the state transportation system's response to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.

Between 2003 and 2007 Porcari served as vice president for administrative affairs at the University of Maryland, College Park. He previously served as Deputy Secretary of Transportation for Maryland and as Assistant Secretary for Economic Development Policy at the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development. Prior to his positions in the state government, he served as vice president of a civil engineering and land use consulting firm.

Porcari received his B.A. degree from the University of Dayton, Ohio, in 1981, and his Master of Public Administration from the State University of New York at Albany in 1985. He and his wife have five children.
